A Look at the 2017 Renault Twingo GT

The Twingo ticks many of the boxes as far as city cars go, even if some buyers may have expected a little bit more. From Renault’s sports line-up, the Twingo is not really a sports car – rather a mid-range GT. Do not expect anything like the Renaultsport Twingo 133 – it is not. A good description would probably be to call it the top city car in the Twingo range. However, it is a nippy, relatively fun car to drive.

Engine

Like the standard model the Twingo GT has a turbocharged 0.9 three-cylinder engine, but it has more power: 109bhp as opposed to the standard model’s 89bhp. Torque is 125 lb-ft. The added air vent situated above the left rear wheel arch pumps more cold air into the intake. And yes, the engine is found at the rear, with rear-while driving. That certainly helps to provide an 8.59-metre turning circle as good steering angle is applied to the front wheels. As it is a typical city car, one expects it to be at its best behaviour on city roads, which it is, but out on the open motorway it will not, for its size, disappoint.

Style and Design

Inside there is good space for the driver and front passenger even if it’s not the same for those at the back. Infotainment is provided via a 7.0-inch touchscreen. An optional extra at £600 is the addition of the Techno Pack R-Link which comes with a reversing camera and DAB to add to the standard kit.

  • To add some GT appeal this little car gets 17-inch wheels, twin exhaust pipes and the option of a striking Blaze Orange colour.
  • The Twingo gets automatic lights and wipers, automatic climate control, cruise control and rear-parking sensors as standard kit.
  • Attractive side skirts and tinted rear windows add to a GT, rather than standard, look.

Some Specifications

The following are some of the specs to look out for:

  • Top speed of 113mph – one of the faster city cars in its class;
  • It accelerates from 0 – 62mph in 9.6 seconds;
  • It is 20mm lower on ride height than the standard car, and comes with stiffer springs and dampers;
  • Transmission: five-speed manual gearbox, just like the standard model;
  • 17-inch wheels;
  • Weight ; 1, 000kg

Price

The Twingo GT is available right now in the UK and starts at £13,775. The most cost effective way to switch cars is to be a cash buyer as opposed to using a part exchange. You can sell your current car to a car buying group and take advantage of the new Renault deals.
