Important things to check before buying a used car

Whilst the thought of buying a new car might be appealing, it’s also very expensive! Buying a used car instead can be a brilliant way of getting more for your money and making your cash go further. Of course, you do have to be a little more cautious when looking for used cars for sale to ensure that everything’s A-Okay and you won’t be left disappointed. Luckily, there are a few sure-fire methods that’ll make sure the vehicle you want to buy is in good condition.

Always Get a Viewing

Never buy a used car that you haven’t seen – we can’t emphasize that enough! It’s such a risky move and definitely not worth the chance. By going to see the car, you can get a much better idea of what’s actually for sale compared to a written description, and you can make sure you like it and feel comfortable in it, too. Try to go and see it during the day time when the weather’s clear – lack of light and rain will make it hard to see little faults and scratches.

Points of Entry

Check that all the locks are the same; if they’re different it could be a sign one was changed which may indicate the car was stolen. You should also be checking they all work, too – a car that doesn’t lock would be a bit of a pain! Check all the windows and sunroof work and the boot opens and closes smoothly.

Check the Mileage

Make sure the mileage isn’t either too high or too low. If the car’s tolled up a hefty number of miles, it probably means it’s going to be in worse shape than one with an average number. If it’s so low for its age that you’re surprised, be wary of ‘clocking’, which is when the mileage is tampered with to make the car more appealing.

Take it for a Spin

Not only does driving the car give you a better idea of its condition, allowing you to check everything from the air conditioning to the horn, but it also gives you a chance to see how it feels. It’s important you feel comfortable driving your new used car! You should keep an eye and ear out for any little errors and make sure everything feels normal when driving.

Take an Expert

If you don’t know much about the ins and outs of cars, take someone who knows what they’re looking for. They can look over the used car for sale, making sure everything’s as it should be.

When it comes to buying a used car[1], everything’s probably going to be absolutely fine, but it never hurts to check! It’s worth taking a few extra precautions just for peace of mind. Follow these tips and you should be driving your dream car in no time!
